Qatar CV Format 2026
Qatar's hiring market is smaller than the UAE's and more concentrated. A large share of professional hiring runs through a limited set of employers (energy, infrastructure, aviation, healthcare, government and the semi-government entities around them) and through the contractors serving them. That concentration changes how a CV gets read.
In a large, fragmented market, a generalist CV survives because there are many doors. In Qatar there are fewer doors, and each one screens harder. Your CV needs to state, in the first third of page one, that you match a specific role in a specific sector.
Before you apply, run your current CV through our free ATS Resume Checker to see what a parser actually extracts from it.
What Goes in the Header
Qatari employers expect more personal context than a US or UK employer would ask for, and less than an unreconstructed template will give them.
Include:
- Full name, as written on your passport
- Phone number in international format, with the country code
- A professional email address
- Current city and country of residence
- Nationality
- Visa or residence permit status, if you are already in Qatar or the wider Gulf
Leave out date of birth, marital status, religion, and a photograph unless the employer's own application form asks for them. These were once standard across the Gulf. They are now optional at most large Qatari employers and actively unhelpful with any ATS, because a photo forces a layout that parses badly.
The one detail worth adding that Western templates omit: if you hold a transferable residence permit, or you have a No Objection Certificate from a current Gulf employer, say so. It removes a real hiring friction and recruiters look for it.
Frame Your Experience Around Project Cycles
This is the single biggest difference between a CV that works in Qatar and one that works in London or Toronto.
A large part of Qatari professional work is project-bound: a stadium, a terminal, a metro line, an LNG train, a hospital wing, a systems migration. Recruiters read experience through that lens. They want to know what phase you have worked in, at what scale, and whether you saw a project through or joined mid-cycle.
So rather than:
Managed procurement activities for a large infrastructure programme.
Write:
Led procurement for a QAR 180M rail package from tender through to close-out, running a 6-supplier framework and delivering the package 4 weeks inside programme.
The second version tells a Qatari hiring manager the sector, the currency and scale, the project phase, the scope of control, and the outcome. That is what they are screening for.
Where you cannot disclose contract values, use scale proxies you can defend: headcount managed, number of packages, square metres, system users, bed capacity, passenger throughput.
Certifications Carry Unusual Weight
Qatar's professional market is credential-heavy, partly because employers are screening candidates from a very wide range of national education systems and need a common yardstick.
Put certifications in their own section, high on page one, not buried under education. Depending on your field, the ones that get recognised include PMP and PRINCE2 in project delivery, NEBOSH and IOSH in health and safety, CFA and ACCA in finance, SHRM and CIPD in human resources, and vendor certifications such as AWS, Azure, SAP and Oracle in technology.
Include the awarding body and the year. If a certification has lapsed, either renew it or leave it off: a lapsed credential listed as current is a fast route to a withdrawn offer during document verification.
Degree attestation is a separate matter from your CV, but it is worth knowing that Qatar requires attestation of educational certificates for most professional visas. Do not claim a degree you cannot produce an attestable certificate for.
Language
State your English proficiency plainly. If you have functional Arabic, say so and be specific about the level: reading and writing versus conversational versus native. Overstating Arabic is common and easily exposed.
Do not submit an Arabic CV unless the posting is in Arabic. English is the working language of most professional hiring in Doha.
Length
Two pages is the norm for a mid-career professional. Three is acceptable at senior level with a long project history. One page reads as underqualified for anything above entry level in this market, which is the reverse of US convention.
If you are coming from a US resume, this is the adjustment to make: your one-page resume is too compressed for Qatar. Expand the project detail rather than padding with soft skills.
The ATS Layer
Large Qatari employers and the recruitment agencies feeding them run applicant tracking systems: Taleo, SuccessFactors, Workday and Oracle are all in use, along with agency-side systems. The parsing rules are the same everywhere:
- Single column. Two-column layouts scramble reading order in many parsers.
- No tables, text boxes, headers or footers for content that matters.
- Standard section headings. "Work Experience", not "Where I've Made an Impact".
- Submit as PDF unless the form specifically asks for .docx.
- Do not put your contact details in an image.
Our guide on how ATS filters resumes covers the mechanics in more depth.
Common Reasons Qatari Applications Stall
- Sending a UAE CV unchanged. The markets look similar from outside and screen differently in practice.
- No visa or NOC status given, leaving the recruiter to assume complications.
- Contract values and project scale omitted, so the recruiter cannot place your seniority.
- A one-page US resume that reads as thin.
- Certifications listed without awarding body or year.
- Generic summary that names no sector.
Qatar CV Checklist
- Nationality and residence status in the header
- A summary that names your sector and years of experience in the first line
- Experience framed by project, phase, scale and outcome
- Certifications in their own section with body and year
- Honest language proficiency
- Two pages, single column, PDF
- Keywords drawn from the actual job posting
