Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain CV Formats Compared
Most Gulf CV advice is written about the UAE and then applied to everywhere else in the region. For Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain that is a mistake. The three markets differ from Dubai and from each other in sector mix, in how hard localisation policy bites, and in how much personal information a recruiter expects to see.
This guide covers what is genuinely different. Where the advice is identical across all three — single column, no tables, PDF, quantified achievements — it is stated once rather than three times.

What All Three Have in Common
Start from a shared base and adjust from there.
- Header: name as per passport, international-format phone, professional email, current city and country, nationality, and visa or residence status.
- Length: two pages mid-career, three at senior level. A one-page US-style resume reads as thin in all three markets.
- Certifications: their own section, high on the page, with awarding body and year.
- Achievements: quantified with local currency where you cite values — KWD, OMR, BHD respectively.
- Format: single column, standard headings, no tables or text boxes, submitted as PDF.
- Photograph: increasingly optional. Include one only if the employer's form asks. It hurts ATS parsing.
- Attestation: all three require attested educational certificates for professional visas. Note your attestation status.
Our guide on how ATS filters resumes covers the parsing mechanics in detail.
Kuwait
Sector shape. Heavily weighted toward oil and gas, petrochemicals, government and public authorities, banking and finance, construction and contracting. The private sector is smaller relative to the public sector than in the UAE.
Localisation. Kuwait operates a substantial workforce nationalisation policy, and it applies with real force in the public sector and in sectors adjacent to it. For expatriate candidates this raises the evidentiary bar: your CV needs to show specialist depth rather than general competence. For Kuwaiti nationals, state nationality clearly in the header.
What to emphasise. Sector-specific technical depth, particularly upstream and downstream energy experience, large-contract delivery, and any experience with Kuwait's public authorities or with KOC, KNPC, KIPIC and similar entities. Name them — recruiters run literal keyword searches.
Personal detail. Kuwaiti employers are among the more traditional in the Gulf on personal information. Nationality and visa status are expected. Date of birth still appears on many local CVs, though it is not required and you are not disadvantaged by omitting it.
Arabic. More valuable here than in the UAE, particularly for government-adjacent and client-facing roles. State your level honestly.
Oman
Sector shape. Energy, logistics and ports, mining, tourism and hospitality, fisheries and food, healthcare, and a growing technology and diversification agenda under Oman Vision 2040.
Localisation. Omanisation is applied seriously and with sector-specific targets. In practice this means expatriate candidates should expect to be assessed against whether the role could be filled locally. Roles requiring niche technical certification, or significant international project exposure, are where expatriate applications land best.
What to emphasise. Vision 2040 sector alignment where genuine — logistics, tourism infrastructure, mining, renewables. Experience transferring skills or training local teams is viewed positively and is worth an explicit line if you have done it, because it speaks directly to the policy objective.
Personal detail. Broadly similar to Kuwait. Nationality and residence status expected.
Tone. Omani professional culture is comparatively understated. Aggressive self-promotion in a summary reads worse here than it would in Dubai. Let the numbers carry the claim.
Bahrain
Sector shape. The most finance-weighted of the three. Banking, Islamic finance, insurance, fintech and regulatory work are disproportionately represented, alongside aluminium and manufacturing, logistics and a professional services layer serving the wider Gulf.
Localisation. Bahrainisation applies, administered with sector quotas. Bahrain's labour market is generally regarded as the most open of the three to expatriate professionals, particularly in financial services.
What to emphasise. Regulatory and compliance experience carries unusual weight given the Central Bank of Bahrain's role in the regional financial sector. Name specific regulatory frameworks you have worked under. Islamic finance credentials — CIBAFI, AAOIFI standards experience — are a genuine differentiator and are frequently understated by candidates who treat them as niche.
Personal detail. The most Westernised of the three. A finance CV in Manama can look much closer to a London CV than a Kuwait City one. Nationality and residence status are still worth including.
Regional mobility. Many Bahrain roles serve the wider Gulf, and a number of professionals live in Bahrain and work into Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. If you are open to that, say so — it is a practical advantage.
Choosing Between Them
If you are applying across all three, do not send one document. The base CV can be shared; the summary line, the sector keywords and the emphasis in your top three bullets should change each time.
The practical minimum is three versions:
- Kuwait: lead with energy or public-sector delivery
- Oman: lead with diversification-sector experience and capability transfer
- Bahrain: lead with financial services, regulatory or fintech depth
