UAE Golden Visa CV
A note before anything else: the UAE Golden Visa is a government scheme with eligibility criteria set and periodically revised by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security and the relevant emirate authorities. Categories, salary thresholds, nomination routes and required documents change. Verify the current criteria on the official UAE government portal or with a licensed agent. Nothing here is immigration advice.
What this guide covers is narrower and genuinely useful: how to structure the professional record you will be asked to present, and why the CV most people already have does that job badly.

A Credential CV Is Not a Job-Seeking CV
A job-seeking CV argues that you can do a role you do not yet have. It is forward-looking, tailored to a posting, and deliberately selective.
A CV supporting a long-term residence application does the opposite. It argues that a record already exists. It is backward-looking, comprehensive, and every claim on it needs a document behind it.
Most applicants submit the first when they need the second. The result is a document full of confident, unevidenced assertions — "transformed the department", "recognised industry leader" — and thin on the things an assessor can actually verify.
Build It Evidence-First
Work backwards from documents. For each claim you want to make, ask what piece of paper proves it. If nothing does, the claim is decoration and should come out.
Things that typically have documentation behind them:
- Employment: contracts, salary certificates, experience letters, trade licence if you are a business owner
- Education: attested degree certificates and transcripts
- Professional standing: licences, memberships of professional bodies, board appointments
- Recognition: awards with a named awarding body and year, published citations
- Output: patents with numbers, publications with DOIs, registered designs, named products shipped
- Financial: audited accounts, investment documentation, valuation letters where relevant
Things that typically have nothing behind them, and which weaken a dossier when overused: adjectives about your leadership style, unattributed percentage improvements, "industry expert", "visionary".
Structure
Order the document so an assessor finds the strongest verifiable material first.
- Header — full name as per passport, contact details, nationality, current residence status in the UAE if you hold one, and your Emirates ID status if applicable.
- Professional summary — four to five lines. Your field, total years, your specialism, and the single most verifiable distinction you hold.
- Qualifications and licences — degrees with institution, year and attestation status; professional licences with issuing body and registration number where public.
- Recognition and contributions — awards, patents, publications, board or committee roles, speaking at named conferences. Each with a year and a body.
- Professional experience — reverse chronological, with employer, dates, title, and outcomes stated in numbers you can evidence.
- Employment continuity — a clean, gap-free chronology. Unexplained gaps invite questions in any residency assessment. Explain them briefly rather than hiding them.
Quantify Only What You Can Defend
The instinct on a CV is to reach for the most impressive available number. In a credential dossier that instinct is a liability, because you may be asked to substantiate it.
Prefer numbers that appear in a document someone else wrote: revenue figures that appear in filed accounts, headcount that appears in an org chart, project values that appear in a contract, user numbers that appear in a public filing or press release.
Where you genuinely cannot evidence a figure, describe scope without inventing precision. "Led the regional engineering function across four markets" is defensible. "Drove a 340% increase in efficiency" is not, unless you can produce the calculation.
Keep a Separate Job-Seeking Version
Do not merge the two documents. The comprehensive dossier is too long and too backward-looking to compete for a role, and the tailored two-page CV is too selective to support a residency claim.
Maintain the full record as your master, and cut a targeted two-page version from it for each application. Our guide to tailoring your CV for a job description covers how to make those cuts without losing the thread.
For the job-seeking version, the UAE resume format guide sets out what Dubai and Abu Dhabi employers expect.
Common Mistakes
- Submitting a marketing-style CV where a documented record is needed
- Claims with no retrievable evidence behind them
- Awards listed without the awarding body or the year
- Employment gaps left unexplained
- Degree attestation status omitted
- One document doing two incompatible jobs
