Ireland CV Format 2026
Ireland's job market has an unusual shape. Alongside domestic employers, it hosts the European headquarters of a large share of American technology, pharmaceutical, medical device and financial services companies — concentrated in Dublin, with significant clusters in Cork, Galway and Limerick.
That produces two hiring cultures in one market. A CV that works for a US multinational's Dublin office and a CV that works for an Irish domestic employer are not quite the same document.

The Shared Base
Length. Two pages. Ireland follows British convention more closely than American — the one-page US resume reads as thin, and three pages reads as unedited outside academia.
No photograph. Irish employment equality legislation covers a broad set of protected grounds, and the convention is firmly against photos. Omit it.
Personal details to omit. Date of birth, age, marital status, religion, nationality where not relevant to work rights, and your PPS number. Never put a PPS number on a CV.
Location. City is sufficient — "Dublin 2" or "Cork". A full address is unnecessary.
Spelling. Irish English follows British convention: organisation, specialise, centre, programme.
Work Permit Status: State It
For non-EU and non-EEA candidates this is the first filter, and being explicit helps you.
Ireland operates employment permit schemes including the Critical Skills Employment Permit, which applies to occupations on a published shortage list and carries more favourable conditions than a general permit. The list is maintained by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and is revised periodically — check the current version rather than relying on any article.
On your CV, one line: EU citizen, Irish citizen, Stamp 4 holder, current permit type with expiry, or requiring sponsorship. If your occupation sits on the Critical Skills list, that is genuinely useful information for the employer and worth noting.
Multinational vs Domestic
Applying to a US multinational's Dublin office. Expect US-influenced hiring: structured interviews, competency frameworks, heavy ATS use, and a preference for quantified achievement bullets. Write for that. Metrics, scope, impact. Keep it to two pages but write it in the register of a strong US resume.
Applying to an Irish domestic employer, the public sector or a semi-state body. Expect a more traditional process. A cover letter is more likely to be read. Referees are more likely to be requested early. The tone is less promotional. Public sector roles may publish competency frameworks to address, similar to Australian selection criteria — if they do, address each one directly.
Read the employer, not just the role.
Structure
- Name, city, phone, email, LinkedIn, work permit status
- Professional summary, three or four lines
- Key skills
- Professional experience, reverse chronological, achievement-led
- Education, with institution and year
- Certifications and professional memberships
- Referees, or "available on request"
Contextualise Overseas Experience
Irish recruiters will not recognise most overseas employers. Add a short descriptor: sector, size, market. Do the same for qualifications — where your degree maps onto the Irish National Framework of Qualifications, saying so removes a judgement call.
For regulated professions — nursing, medicine, engineering, accountancy, teaching — state your registration status with the relevant Irish body, or the stage you have reached. Do not imply registration you do not hold.
Cover Letters
More commonly read in Ireland than in the US. One page, specific, addressed to a named person where you can find one. For domestic and public sector employers assume it will be read closely; for a multinational's high-volume graduate pipeline, assume it may not be.

- Photograph or date of birth carried over from a continental template
- PPS number printed on the CV
- Work permit status not stated
- A one-page US resume for a domestic Irish employer
- Same CV and tone used for a multinational and a semi-state body
- US spelling throughout
- Overseas employers with no context
