Customer Success Manager Resume Guide 2026
Customer success is measured in retention, and a CSM resume without retention numbers reads as a support resume with a different title. Hiring managers want to know the size of the book you managed, what you retained and expanded, and what you changed to make that happen. The rest of the resume (tools, process, collaboration) matters, but only once those numbers are on the page.
This guide covers the metrics, the scope line, bullet rewrites and keywords for CSM, senior CSM and CS leadership resumes at US SaaS companies.
Summary
Customer success manager with 5 years in mid-market B2B SaaS, managing a $6M ARR book of 45 accounts. Gross retention 94%, net revenue retention 115% in FY2025; cut time-to-first-value from 45 to 21 days by rebuilding onboarding. Gainsight and Salesforce.
Scope Line
Customer Success Manager, Brightline Analytics (Remote, US) · Feb 2022 – Present Scope: 45 mid-market accounts, $6M ARR; renewals, expansion and onboarding; segment $50K to $300K ACV; Gainsight, Salesforce, Zendesk.
Book size in ARR, number of accounts, segment and whether you owned renewals and expansion directly are the calibration a hiring manager needs.
Metrics a CSM Can Claim
- Gross revenue retention and net revenue retention, by year
- Renewal rate by count and by dollar
- Expansion or upsell revenue
- Churn prevented, with a saved-account figure
- Time to first value or onboarding duration
- Product adoption: active users, feature adoption, health scores
- NPS or CSAT for your book
- QBR cadence and executive sponsor coverage
- Escalation resolution times
State them honestly at your level of ownership. If retention was a team result, say "contributed to" and give your book's figure where you have it.
Bullet Rewrites
Before: Managed a portfolio of customer accounts and ensured satisfaction.
After: Managed a $6M ARR book of 45 mid-market accounts at 94% gross retention and 115% net revenue retention in FY2025; sourced $820K in expansion.
Before: Conducted onboarding for new customers.
After: Rebuilt onboarding into a 21-day guided program with milestone check-ins in Gainsight; time-to-first-value fell from 45 to 21 days and 90-day churn dropped from 8% to 2%.
Before: Handled escalations and worked with product team.
After: Ran escalations for the book with a 24-hour first-response standard; logged and prioritised 60 product issues with Product, 14 of which shipped, and retained 5 at-risk accounts worth $610K.
Before: Conducted quarterly business reviews.
After: Delivered QBRs to executive sponsors at every account above $100K; expanded executive sponsor coverage from 40% to 85% of the book in a year.
Levels
Onboarding or scaled CS: volume and velocity. "Onboarded 300 SMB accounts a quarter through a one-to-many program; 30-day activation rate 78%."
Enterprise CSM: fewer accounts, larger ACV, multi-year renewals, executive relationships, strategic plans. "Managed 8 enterprise accounts ($4.2M ARR) including a $1.1M three-year renewal negotiated with the CIO."
CS leadership: team retention numbers, headcount, playbooks, tooling, revenue responsibility. "Led a team of 7 CSMs managing $28M ARR at 92% gross and 111% net retention; built the health-score model now used company-wide."
Tools and Keywords
Gainsight, ChurnZero, Totango, Vitally, Planhat, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zendesk, Intercom, Pendo, Mixpanel, Looker. Process terms recruiters search: onboarding, adoption, renewals, expansion, QBR, health score, churn, NRR, GRR, escalation, voice of customer. Use them inside bullets where they are true.
Moving Into CS From Support, Sales or Account Management
Lead with the retention-adjacent results you already have: renewals you influenced, churn you prevented, adoption you drove, escalations you resolved. State the target in the summary. The career change resume guide covers the hybrid format.
What Weakens a CSM Resume
- No book size or retention figure anywhere.
- Satisfaction described in adjectives rather than NPS or retention.
- Confusing support metrics (tickets closed) with success metrics (revenue retained).
- Tools listed without any result they were used for.
- A designed layout that applicant tracking systems parse badly; the ATS format guide explains what breaks.
Templates That Parse Cleanly
Harvard Resume Template: the single-column academic-standard layout and the most downloaded template on CVEdge. Set it to Letter and it is the safest US default.
Classic Resume Template: standard headings, no graphics, parses cleanly in Greenhouse, Workday, Lever and iCIMS.
Executive Resume Template: for senior candidates who need the summary and leadership scope to land before the role history.

Frequently asked questions
What metrics should a customer success resume include?
Book size in ARR and accounts, gross and net revenue retention, renewal rate, expansion revenue, time-to-value, adoption and health-score changes. State the year and your level of ownership.
How do I show retention if I did not own renewals?
Give your book's retention and describe your role in it: onboarding, adoption, escalations, QBRs. "Contributed to 96% gross retention on a $4M book through onboarding and adoption programs" is honest and specific.
Is customer success the same as account management?
They overlap. Account management usually owns the commercial renewal and expansion; customer success owns adoption and outcomes, sometimes with the renewal. State which you owned so the hiring manager can match you to their model.
One page or two?
One page for CSMs and senior CSMs. Two for CS leaders with teams, tooling and revenue responsibility to describe.
