About this template

Sharp is the ATS-safe template for professionals who find Classic too plain but won't compromise on ATS safety. The bold section dividers and modern typography are purely visual — they use CSS, not images or tables, so ATS parsers see them identically to a plain-format resume.

For tech, product, and design professionals applying at startups and growth companies where a recruiter reviews the visual resume rather than relying solely on parsed data, Sharp offers a meaningful visual upgrade over Classic with zero ATS risk trade-off.

Sharp scores 93–95 on CVEdge's ATS analyser — fractionally below Minimal due to the additional CSS styling, but fully compliant with all major ATS parsers in practice.

The modern feel of Sharp also makes it more likely to catch a recruiter's attention when it reaches the reviewed pile — ATS safety and human appeal aren't opposites.

Why this template works for ats friendly

Sharp uses tighter leading and firmer heading weights than Classic, which lets you fit noticeably more on a page without resorting to columns or shrinking type. It stays single-column and fully parseable. Choose it when you have more to say than Classic comfortably holds but do not want to move to two pages.

Recommended section order

  1. 1Contact
  2. 2Summary
  3. 3Experience
  4. 4Skills
  5. 5Education
  6. 6Certifications

Conventional order, but Sharp's density means you can carry a longer Experience section on page one — which is where you want it, since first-pass scanning rarely reaches page two.

What to put where

Summary

You can afford four sentences here rather than three. Use the extra room for a second quantified result rather than more adjectives.

Experience

Sharp's density suits candidates with five or more roles to cover. Keep the most recent two detailed and compress older ones to one or two lines each.

Skills

The tighter leading lets you group more categories legibly. Still resist listing everything — density is an opportunity for more substance, not more noise.

Certifications

Sharp has room to list these properly with issuing body and year, which matters in fields where they are used as hard filters.

Common mistakes with this template

  • Treating the extra capacity as licence to include everything. The density should buy you more detail on recent work, not the return of roles from fifteen years ago.
  • Pushing line spacing tighter still to squeeze more in, at which point legibility collapses.
  • Mixing bullet lengths inconsistently, which reads as untidy at this density in a way it would not in an airier layout.

When to choose something else

Graduates and early-career candidates with limited content will usually be better served by the Minimal layout.

Questions about this template

Is Sharp less ATS-safe than Classic or Minimal?+

In practice, no. Sharp uses CSS styling that doesn't affect ATS parsing. CVEdge's ATS analyser scores Sharp at 93–95 vs 95–97 for Classic, a difference that is irrelevant in real-world screening.

When should I choose Sharp over Classic for ATS applications?+

Choose Sharp when you're applying to companies that visually review resumes (most startups, creative agencies, growth companies). Choose Classic for heavily automated enterprise pipelines where format safety above all else is the priority.

How much more fits on a Sharp resume compared to Classic?+

Roughly fifteen to twenty percent more content on the same page, depending on how much of your text is bullets versus headings. That is usually the difference between an awkward two-page document with a nearly empty second page and a clean single page. It comes from tighter leading and more efficient heading spacing, not from a smaller body font.

Is a denser resume harder for recruiters to scan?+

Only if the writing is weak. Density hurts when bullets are long and unstructured, because there is less whitespace to separate them. It helps when bullets are short and result-led, because more of the strong material sits above the fold. If your bullets already lead with outcomes, Sharp is an advantage; if they do not, fix the bullets before changing the template.
