About this template

Bold Accent's structured chip system and icon sections help freshers organise limited experience into a resume that looks considered and complete. The section structure — with clearly defined areas for Projects, Skills, Certifications, and Experience — means a resume with 6 months of internship and three degree projects looks as organised as a 5-year career.

The skill chips feature is particularly valuable for freshers who have technical or tool-based skills but little work experience to demonstrate them. For a CS fresher: Python, React, SQL, AWS — displayed as chips, they show immediately readable competency.

Bold Accent is single-column so it passes all ATS filters, which matters for graduate schemes and first-job applications that use automated screening.

Note: Bold Accent works best when you commit to filling all sections. Leave a section empty and the structure looks incomplete. Populate every section with at least some content.

Why this template works for freshers & entry level

Bold Accent adds a single accent colour to headings and chips over an otherwise conventional single-column structure. For graduates it gives a document some personality without the parsing risk of a genuinely designed layout — useful in marketing, media, communications and startup applications.

Recommended section order

  1. 1Contact
  2. 2Education
  3. 3Experience & internships
  4. 4Projects
  5. 5Skills

Standard graduate ordering. The accent handles differentiation, so the structure should stay conventional — a reader should never have to work out where anything is.

What to put where

Education

Conventional and brief. The accent colour on the heading gives it presence without needing extra content.

Experience & internships

Include part-time and campus work. Bullets with outcomes, however modest — 'handled 60 covers a shift' is a real number.

Projects

Campaigns, portfolios, society work, coursework with a real audience. For marketing-adjacent applications these matter more than technical detail.

Skills

The chip styling suits short grouped terms. Keep them to things you could discuss for two minutes.

Common mistakes with this template

  • Adding a second and third accent colour, which turns a considered document into a busy one.
  • Choosing an accent with poor contrast against white — it must remain legible printed in greyscale.
  • Assuming the colour compensates for thin content; it does not.
  • Using it for conservative graduate schemes where it reads as trying too hard.

When to choose something else

Banking, law and traditional professional-services graduate schemes will usually be better served by the Classic Serif layout.

Questions about this template

Is Bold Accent good for graduate scheme applications?+

Yes — the chip skills section highlights competencies that graduate schemes screen for. The single-column ATS-safe layout ensures automated portals parse it correctly.

What should freshers include in the Bold Accent skills chips?+

Prioritise: programming languages, tools, platforms, and certifications relevant to the role. For tech roles: languages and frameworks. For marketing roles: tools (GA4, HubSpot, Canva). For finance: Excel, Bloomberg, VBA, Python.

Is colour on a resume unprofessional?+

A single restrained accent on headings is fine in most sectors and unremarkable in marketing, media, design and startups. What reads as unprofessional is several colours, large blocks of saturated background, or colour used to convey meaning that disappears in greyscale printing. One accent, used consistently, is a design decision rather than a risk.

Does colour affect ATS parsing?+

No. Parsers read the text layer and ignore styling entirely, so coloured headings extract exactly as plain ones do. The parsing risks are structural — tables, text boxes, multi-column layouts, and text rendered as images. This template keeps a single-column text flow, so the accent is purely visual and carries no cost.
